Introduction to VIRGO

If you would prefer proceeding with the JAVA applet instead, please update your bookmarks.

Installation for Windows users

Please move to Bastian's Virgo repository at bitbucket.org:
https://bitbucket.org/NoGy/virgo/downloads/

Download virgo.exe and store where your Windows executables reside. Feel free to create a link on your desktop for the young lady.

Before launching, you have to install the JAVA runtime environment (JRE) first.
Please note: this is not the JAVA plugin of your browser, we are talking here of the JAVA virtual machine that enables your PC to run JAVA software.
So when you browse the JAVA site, please look for JRE or JDK to get the right stuff:
https://oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html or:
https://oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/

You can launch Virgo now out of the directory or with a click on the icon you created on the desktop.

Installation for Linux users

Please move to Bastian's Virgo repository at bitbucket.org:
https://bitbucket.org/NoGy/virgo/downloads/

Download virgo.jar.

Before launching, you have to install the JAVA runtime environment (JRE) first.
Type "java" at the system prompt to check whether JAVA is available already. If not, your OS may give you hints what to do. Running Ubuntu, you could try:
sudo apt install default-jre

To avoid difficulties, please install from the repositories of your distro, not from the ORACLE site!

Run with: java -jar /path-to-jar/virgo.jar

Feel free to create an icon on your desktop (virgo.desktop) for the young lady:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Exec=sh -c "java -jar /path_to_jar/virgo.jar"
Name=Virgo
Comment=Meteor sky view
Icon=/path_to_icon/icon.png # http://dl1dbc.net/Meteorscatter/virgo_logo_250.png
